這是一張1998年最新出爐的好音樂，融合了中國人的精華，由世界級的作曲家譚盾和林昭亮小提琴的演奏及中國有名的指揮家湯沐海的結晶。這樣的組合再由中國的樂團來演出就一百分了！但現在是由北歐芬蘭的赫爾辛基愛樂管絃樂團演奏，也算是不錯；一開場冒頭的聲音就是那麼中國，那麼的有京劇味道；林昭亮的小提琴是那麼的有平劇風味與精緻細膩；管絃樂團在湯沐海的新中國融合與卡拉揚式的華麗下展開；而本取還真的是世界首次的錄音，更是珍貴。其餘二首音樂為”死與活”，”管絃樂劇場II”也都是譚盾的名曲。
