Quarry Bank纺纱厂(Quarry Bank Mill)位于曼彻斯特南面10英里(16公里)的威尔姆斯洛(Wilmslow)，是座18世纪的纺纱厂。现在仍生产布匹，以便让参观者认识水车生动力驱动纺纱机的原理。学徒车间里有身穿工作服的导游带你时光倒流，一睹年轻工人的苦难生活。纺纱厂是早期工厂的实例，内有蒸汽机和完好的铁制水车。
当年在纺纱厂工作的童工都是来自孤儿院，也有一部分外国移民，Quarry Bank是工业革命时期英国最重要的纺纱厂之一。由于工人众多，那里俨然已经形成了一个社区，工厂附近有学校、教堂和医疗诊所等。在工厂的工作是极其不稳定且危险的，而工厂主对待工人则像对待奴隶一样，9岁就要做12个小时的倒班，对待企图逃跑的人将进行严厉的惩罚。而该剧则反映了年轻的学徒们是如何第一次将自己的命运把握在自己的手中……
《纺纱厂往事》由约翰·费编剧、詹姆斯·哈维斯掌镜，将于当地时间7月28日在Channel 4首播。
