Don't Suck (2018) [TV] Douban
part of TV Series: Don't Suck
director: Tyler Martin actor: Tyler Martin / David Gow
Kinda, loosely, maybe inspired by true sucky events, DON’T SUCK is a dramedy about a gay, Christian, chronic masturbator named Tyler. Feeling stifled by college and ostracized by his conservative family, Tyler abruptly drops out of college and moves from Texas to New York City to pursue his career as an actor and singer-songwriter. (So original) Tyler shares an apartment with Marco, a guy he met from Craigslist…who turns out to be a nudist. But Tyler is more concerned about his “bedroom.” It’s small. Like, really small. His new life in the city is complicated even more when he runs into Greg who broke his heart in high school…and also in college. The two begin reconnecting, and quickly fall into their old “right place, wrong time” festivities. Luckily Tyler’s stupid bitch of a best friend, Alex, follows him up to NY to comfort the shit out of him. But all positives have negatives. Alex is staying with Tyler in his “bedroom,” and makes up endless excuses for not wanting to leave. Very over it, Tyler takes matters into his own hands to find her an apartment. Juggling drama with his parents, Greg, Alex, and various awkward encounters with strangers, Tyler must refocus on why he moved to the city. After too many final straws, he reclaims his shit and begins to focus on his music. With original songs, heartwarming characters, and suck-tastic events, DON’T SUCK examines the universal goal of not sucking.
