小象隊成員霍秀貞飾演一名美容院洗頭小妹，由於老闆規定每個人都必須有個英文名字，她就取了最土、最平凡的「瑪麗」。這是一部關於「異鄉人在台北」的傷感溫情小品(雖然結尾收得不夠漂亮)，瑪麗確實是個缺乏存在感又不夠聰明的土包子，然而蔡明亮藉由充滿說服力的細節描繪，卻呈現出這個身材龐大、沒人認為美麗的鄉下女孩的溫柔、善良與尊嚴，彷彿台版《美麗蘿賽塔》般觸動人心。
