With varying degrees of success, recently divorced friends Dave, Vic and Donny are trying to move on with their lives. 但离比赛的时间只有几个星期，造出一辆性能优异的太阳能车并非易事。孩子们不断遭到来自家长和对手的打击，连体育老师马克也不相信这群土著的“罗罗”能够成就什么大事。太阳能车几次试验，都以失败告终。孩子们心灰意冷，几近放弃。关键时刻，丹尼尔从甲壳虫身上获得灵感，设计出新的太阳能车，并收到很好的效果。在当地的太阳能比赛中，丹尼尔等人终于赢得了比赛，获得了去澳大利亚参加决赛的机会。
但来自各方面的压力却越来越大，当地最大的太阳能电池板公司想收买这群孩子做广告。遭到拒绝后，竟然停止对他们的资助。为了实现自己的愿望，孩子们自费去澳大利亚，并参加了高手云集的决赛。除了他们自己，没有人在乎他们是否参加比赛。在比赛过程中，困难重重，惊险环生。甚至小队内部发生分歧，但凭借着对梦想的不断追求，这群孩子们终于赢得了比赛。
