Tomorrow is Christmas at Vincent and Beatrice Barand's house. Vincent is happy, it's his favorite day. Unfortunately, the whole family cancels at the last minute. 1809年7月，在拿破仑率军征战奥地利的瓦格拉姆战场上，罗佩菲尔元帅的夫人卡特琳娜不慎身陷奥地利士兵的包围之中。危急关头，维也纳那伯格伯爵上校的出现让卡特琳娜幸免一死。为了报答那伯格上校，卡特琳娜将随身穿着的一件红舞裙脱下来送给那伯格作为纪念。
一年后，获胜的法国国王拿破仑一世出于传宗接代和政治联姻的目的，娶奥地利大公国玛利依莎公主为妻。盛大的结婚庆典上，受时任维也纳驻法国公使的那伯格伯爵邀请的卡特琳娜，在翩跹的舞姿中发现了一个惊人的秘密。原来，新婚皇后玛利依莎和那伯格伯爵是一对青梅竹马的恋人。
果真，新婚之夜，傲慢的拿破仑一世被玛利依莎关在了门外。虽然，拿破仑贵为国王，但在性格直爽的卡特琳娜夫人的眼里，拿破仑就是一个战争中的暴发户。当卡特琳娜的惊人发现通过两个皇妹传到拿破仑的耳朵里时，拿破仑国王丝毫不顾国际影响，当场下令将竟敢公然挑衅那伯格伯爵驱逐出境，并以管教夫人不力为名，命令罗佩菲尔元帅辞职。
就在拿破仑国王打发难已纠缠的卡特琳娜夫人时，逃过押送人员、秘密潜回皇宫的那伯格伯爵趁机溜进了玛利依莎的房间。那伯格和玛利依莎被拿破仑当场捉拿后，那伯格被投进了大狱，而出于对卡特琳娜的报复，拿破仑又将负责看押和处决那伯格的任务交给了罗佩菲尔。
那伯格为爱情而敢于献身的精神深深地震撼了卡特琳娜和罗佩菲尔，在作为军人的罗佩菲尔因恪守天职而无法搭救的情况下，设法营救救命恩人那伯格的任务落到了卡特琳娜的肩上。卡特琳娜一计不成又生一计，终于在处决的枪声响起之前，拿到了拿破仑签署的“赦令”。
那伯格得救了。两年后的1812年春天，卡特琳娜随丈夫罗佩菲尔在拿破仑的率领下出征波兰时,有意成全玛利依莎与那伯格的会心一笑，同时荡漾在卡特琳娜和玛利依莎的脸上。

In "Sloth," a movie star would rather pay someone to tie his shoe than bend over to do it himself, and he can't be bothered to accept a starlet's sexual favors. In "Gluttony," a peasant family on its way to the funeral of a relative who died from indigestion stops regularly to eat and drink en route, arriving in time to eat some more. In "Greed," a high-class prostitute refunds the price of a cadet's lottery ticket. In "Pride," an unfaithful wife finds reason to reform. And so on through lust and envy.
