Nurse Anna and her assistant Hans work in an old folks’ home that was once the orphanage where they were imprisoned as children, and they still seem trapped in time and space.

Bernardo is a charming, successful man, full of friends, always frantically searching for his freedom. For a bad twist of fate one day everything changes, putting him in front of a choice: accept what has happened or become someone else, to take back what life has taken from him.

Sicily in the 1950s: The sales of the communist daily newspaper "L'Ora" have hit rock bottom when Antonio Nicastro takes over the post of editor-in-chief. With him, a breath of fresh air moves in: he resolutely drives his journalists to uncover the crimes of the Cosa Nostra, which are omnipresent in the region around Palermo.
