本剧开发已经有些时日，去年三月获得试映集预定，今年一月正式放行。它改编自雨果奖和星云奖双料得主Octavia E. Butler在1979年出版大受欢迎的同名小说，此次由FX制作的剧版将由新人Mallori Johnson主演。Janicza和Branden之外，《黑天鹅》导演Darren Aronofsky和《美国谍梦》主创Joel Fields、Joe Weisberg都挂名参与到剧集制片身份中。
