这部电影的力量并不是在于它所表现的愤怒，而是在于玩世不恭的态度上。影片的结尾并没有给这样的政治争论一个结束性的定论。美德是不需要回报的，犯罪并没有受到惩罚，道德并不是游戏的准则，这些都是因为体制的腐烂，没有人可以避免这样的生活。生活里也许有的人的性格比别人的要好，也许有的人并不是那么的邪恶，但是他们的想法和思维在这个政治的氛围里受到了限制，他们逐渐的开始沉沦。就象19世纪英国著名小说家萨克雷Thackeray的小说《名利场》一样，“一个没有主人公的小说”。约翰赛利斯在他的新片中表现了同样的精神。
