After losing nearly all of an inheritance to taxes, sisters Kay and Barbara Latimer, waitresses at a drive-in restaurant in Texas, scheme to find rich husbands. With the aid of their aunt Susan, the sisters take the last of their money and head to a well-known Miami resort where they soon meet two wealthy young men, Phil and Jeff, who begin a fierce rivalry for Kay, not realizing that Barbara has fallen in love with one of them.

In a long flashback, a New York publisher is in Venice pursuing the lost love letters of an early-19th-century poet, Jeffrey Ashton, who disappeared mysteriously. Using a false name, Lewis Venable rents a room from Juliana Bordereau, once Jeffrey Ashton's lover, now an aged recluse. Running the household is Juliana's severe niece, Tina, who mistrusts Venable from the first moment. He realizes all is not right when late one night he finds Tina, her hair unpinned and wild, at the piano. She calls him Jeffrey and throws herself at him. The family priest warns Venable to tread carefully around her fantasies, but he wants the letters at any cost, even Tina's sanity.

The brilliantly designed, one-of-a-kind film manages to create legitimate speaking parts for six dozen famous actors and actresses. The 1943 production, designed to boost British morale during the War, explores the experiences of a family through several generations. Also written and directed by teams of talented screenwriters and directors, the 106 minute film is remarkably coherent and engaging, and, of course, the steady parade of stars doing their thing (Buster Keaton as an inept plumber; Eric Blore as a smarmy butler, Charlie Ruggles as a concerned father, Claude Rains as a villainous suitor, and so on, and so on) is an utter delight.
The black-and-white source material is somewhat worn down, with numerous scratches and other markings. The image is reasonably sharp most of the time and contrasts are fairly well defined, even when parts of the picture appear grainy. The film’s condition tends to reinforce its wartime origins and does not present an insurmountable detriment to the entertainment. The monophonic sound is adequate and the film is not captioned.

he wealthiest man in the world, John P. Merrick, is a private person who likes to stay anonymous. One of his many assets, and a minor one at that, is Neeley's Department Store. There is labor unrest at the store, most of the employees' anger directed at Merrick, who they hang in effigy outside the store despite not knowing what he looks like. Merrick, not happy at what he sees going on, decides to go undercover working at the store to mete out the rabble-rousers. Undercover as Thomas Higgins, Merrick gets assigned as a sales clerk in the shoe department, where he is taken under the caring wing of his colleague Mary Jones, who sees in Higgins a poor man needing the guidance of friends. One of those other friends is Elizabeth Ellis, who Mary sees as a possible "Mrs. Higgins". Mary's boyfriend is Joe O'Brien, the chief organizer of the employees, four hundred of whom are following Joe in the charge against the store and Merrick. At the store, Merrick not only wants the list of the four hundred, but also wants to change those things he doesn't like at the store, chief amongst those being his shoe department section manager, Mr. Hooper. But as Higgins, Merrick also begins to see things a little differently, specifically from an employee's point of view.

本片在台灣曾由台視以《奇幻人間》譯名（先前台視曾於1965年將另一部影集《One Step Beyond》以同譯名播映），於1967年1月6日～1967年8月25日期間，在每週五12:55-13:25播出。
在本作完結後20年的1983年再次推出新系列，以彩色畫面攝製。此版本在台灣則由華視購入播出。

This production of 'Twelve Angry Men', written especially for Studio One, is shorter than the film version and leaves a few twists and turns of plot undeveloped, but it is fifty minutes of class nevertheless. For many years this episode was thought to have been lost. The Museum of Television and Radio (now the Paley Center) had only the first 30 minutes of the hour-long program on a kinescope provided by CBS - the only version CBS had. After nearly 30 years of searching, a copy of the complete program was found in 2003 by filmmaker Joseph Consentino, who was working on a documentary about noted defense attorney Robert Leibowitz (Leibowitz reported on the Charles A. Lindbergh baby kidnapping for the NY radio station WHN) and found a copy of the show in the archives maintained by the children of Leibowitz, Robert Leibowitz and Marjorie Leibowitz Finch. Samuel Leibowitz requested and received a commercial-free kinescope copy of "Twelve Angry Men" from CBS shortly after it aired because of his interest in legal issues. The Leibowitz children donated the kinescope to the museum and it had a re-premiere in May 2003.
