When the infamous Robber Hotzenplotz leaves his hideout in the forest to steal a beloved musical coffee grinder belonging to Kasperl’s grandmother, the town’s clumsy police sergeant proves to be of little help with arresting him. The young Kasperl and his friend Seppel decide that they will track down the thief themselves, but stopping him will not be easy – especially when Hotzenplotz involves the wicked magician Petrosilius who lives in a terrifying castle where he will imprison our heroes. Joined by a fairy-turned-toad, Kasperl and Seppel must escape the castle, catch the two vicious crooks, and bring the coffee grinder back to Kasperl’s beloved grandmother!

1989, East Berlin: Anne (Josefine Preuß) wants to get a fake Westpass for her illegal departure from the GDR and travels with the rebellious August (Jacob Matschenz) to the Monday demonstration to Leipzig. She does so against the will of her father Otto Wolf (Jörg Schüttauf), a famous GDR state actor and gifted Honecker impersonator. He learns by accident that just calculated at the next deployment tanks against the demonstrators should be used. Disguised as Honecker, he smuggles himself into the Central Committee and wants to take back the shooting order, but due to unfortunate circumstances he ends up in Wandlitz with Margot Honecker (Hedi Kriegeskotte), from whom he now has to spend himself as her husband. Now Otto needs the help of his acting colleagues to get out of the mess with a healthy skin ...

The ambitious scientist Franz Walter doesn't hesitate when he is promised a professorship at the university. He immediately accepts, pledges absolute loyalty to the system and agrees to work for the GDR's foreign intelligence service until he can take up his new position. Together with his colleague Dirk, he is sent on foreign assignments to West Germany. Franz soon has to use blackmail to get innocent people to talk. But his superiors go even further: GDR refugees and their relatives are targeted to be psychologically destroyed, forged letters, medical diagnoses, surveillance and wiretapping are on the agenda. However, this is more than Franz can bear: he feels powerless and increasingly isolates himself. When he then decides to steal secret documents for a later defection to the West, this results in an unfortunate chain reaction leading to his arrest and ultimately to his execution...
