Therapist Tess falls for widowed professor Paul, who's having an affair with Carla, one of her patients. Tess turns a dangerous page when she uncovers that Paul is not only the root of Carla's emotional turmoil, he also murdered his wife in order to be with Carla.

When Manny Singer's wife dies, his young daughter Molly becomes mute and withdrawn.
