Probably the most unjustly underrated of all Skolimowski's films, a surreal black comedy - based on Nabokov's novel retailing a triangle situation, with puckish overtones of obsession and perversion, between a wealthy businessman, his luscious wife, and an orphaned boy - that pushes some of the satirical extravagances of Frank Tashlin and Jerry Lewis to their most logical and deathly conclusions. Hilarious, misanthropic and disturbing, the movie amply fulfils Tom Milne's description of it as 'the most Nabokovian film the cinema has thrown up to date'.

Poland is under Communist rule. An exiled Polish theater director is in England, enthusiastically preparing an abstract play which will criticize the authoritarian Polish government. His sons might not share his political views, though.

In 1840, a young Russian aristocrat, Dimitri Sanin, is returning home after a long tour of Europe. In Germany, he falls in love with a beautiful pastry shop girl, Gemma Rosselli, who soon starts sharing his feelings. They decide to get married and, in order to finance the wedding, Dimitri goes back to Russia to sell his family estate. Unfortunately he falls prey to a seductress, Princess Maria Nikolaevna, who pretends to be willing to buy his land to come nearer him. Now Sanin is in a fix: should he choose the pure Gemma or the evil but irresistible Maria?

Marc, an apprentice at a barber shop in Brussels, signs up for a racing match but does not actually own a car. In the end, he decides to drive his boss’s Porsche... Le Depart is Skolimowski’s first film produced with Belgian funds in Western Europe, and the film received attention because Jean-Pierre Leaud, the representative actor of the French New Wave, played Marc. The film shows a boy caught in a dilemma between what he should do and what he wants to do. The film is also remarkable because the director expresses events with Krzysztof Komeda’s music in place of dialogue.
Le Depart is Skolimowski’s first film made in the West. Its protagonist, nineteen-year-old Marc, works as a hairdresser’s apprentice in Brussels and dreams about becoming a racing car driver. He enters his name for a rally due to start in two days, but does not have a car and goes to great lengths to acquire one. However, when he's finally in a position to participate in the competition, he and his girlfriend stop at a hotel to get some sleep and they oversleep the rally. Marc is Andrzej Leszczyc’s Western counterpart. Like Leszczyc, he likes games and refuses to follow the rules prescribed to him by his elders. He can thus be described as an eternal boy, Skolimowski’s favourite type of character. There are also differences between the two, as Marc’s identity is entirely defined by what and how he consumes; his love of cars is his only distinct feature. Without it, he would be nobody. Marc is played by Jean-Pierre Leaud, the face of the French New Wave and its ultimate rebel. Le Depart is the most musical film of Skolimowski's. One feels that without music, Le Depart would not survive as a coherent artefact, but break into a series of disjointed episodes. Music not only illustrates the events or counterpoints them, but practically replaces them, filling long passages without words and endowing the whole film with amazing energy.

史高林莫斯基含自傳成份的第一部片，描寫一個不滿現狀的青年(史高林莫斯基親自扮演)在半天裡的心路歷程。安德烈要在短短數小時內決定參加為期兩年的兵役，抑或繼續學業和面對現實的社會？安德烈一直將他的身份與背景隱藏，不想向任何人揭露，就算同居女友泰蕾莎對他亦一無所知。安德烈與泰蕾莎之間的隔閡，正好暗示兩人之間面臨決裂。雖然安德烈答應接見他的軍官會依時報到，但冷靜下來時卻盤算有沒有其他值得留下的理由。即使有太多的失望與挫折：與泰蕾莎的愛情生活不如意，愛犬又因染上瘋狗症而被人道毀滅，安德烈並沒有準備離去的跡象，只是努力地找尋留下來的藉口。當安德烈不斷與他的朋友碰面，時間逐漸消逝，他亦不斷進行自我的鬥爭。影片發展下去，這個像夢境一般的旅程，漸漸演變成找尋自我的心路歷程。史高林莫斯基的電影皆以年青人面對的社會問題為中心，對心態的刻劃十分深入。

Magical
Barrier is comparable to Last Year at Marienbad with its non-linear development, mysterious characters and inexplicable mis-en-scene. It also shares the guerrilla film-making style of the French New Wave. It is one of Skolimowski's best.
The film follows a newly graduated medical student in his pursuit of an unattainable woman. He follows her through the streets of 60s Poland where spontaneous dance parties and candle-light rituals erupt.
A dream-like meditation on post-industrial life in Communist Poland. Filled with exquisite, unforgettable images, this masterpiece will hopefully find its way onto DVD soon.

A Polish contractor, Nowak, leads a group of workmen to London so they can provide cheap labor for a government official based there. Nowak has to manage the project and the men as they encounter the tempations of the West and loneliness and separation from their families. Nowak is the only one of the group who speaks English, and he uses this as a tool over his team. When the unrest in Poland leads to a military takeover, Nowak is faced with a much more difficult situation than he expected.
