歌舞伎の舞台を映画館でデジタル上映する「シネマ歌舞伎」シリーズ第22弾。中村勘九郎、中村七之助、尾上松也ら歌舞伎界の新世代スターたちが河竹黙阿弥の名作「三人吉三」に挑んだ、2014年6月・渋谷シアターコクーン上演の舞台を収録。本公演の演出と美術を手がけた串田和美が監督を務め、編集を重ねて新たな映像作品としてよみがえらせた。木屋の手代・十三郎は夜鷹のおとせと一夜を共にするが、店から預かった百両を宿に忘れてしまう。翌日、十三郎に金を届けようとしたおとせは、その道中で出会った娘に金を奪われる。その娘の正体は、お嬢吉三という盗人の男で、さらに通りすがりの男から名刀・庚申丸を奪い取る。そこへ犯行を目撃した盗人・お坊吉三が現われて百両を横取りしようとする。2人が争っていると、今度は和尚吉三という盗賊が止めに入る。自分たちが同じ名前であることに不思議な縁を感じた3人は、兄弟の契りを結ぶが……。
