乔克姆·拉弗塞1975年出生在比利时的布鲁塞尔，《虚有权》是他的第二部长片制作，之前他拍摄过一些短片，2004年他的第一部长片《私人疯狂》在比利时取得了相当大的成功。作为一名莫里斯·皮亚拉的崇拜者，他早就对于家庭内部的关系给予了相当多的关注，而《虚有权》的灵感据说来源于本片女主角伊莎贝尔·赫波特从前扮演过的一个角色“Médée”。
