Two suicidal teenagers, Conrad and Michelle, turn to each other for support, communicating via text messages. But when Conrad expresses his desire to end his life, instead of trying to stop him as she had previously, Michelle encourages Conrad to take his life, even providing him suggestions on how to do it.

When traditional grandmother Verna, suffers a stroke, her estranged daughter Ellen, returns to their modest home, facing the role of caregiver to both her ailing mother and her teenage daughter. As Verna’s memories blur and long-buried family secrets resurface, Ellen confronts painful truths about her past. In the midst of family upheaval, Haley struggles with relentless bullying, her identity, and anxiety, while watching her once-stable world fall apart.

The period piece tells the history of the gay rights movement, starting with the Stonewall Riots in 1969.
