In the series, "Wallace will take a light hearted and humorous look at the real-life inventors, contraptions, gadgets and inventions, with the silent help of Gromit. The series aims to inspire a whole new generation of innovative minds by showing them real, but mind-boggling, machines and inventions from around the world that have influenced his illustrious inventing career" (the BBC press statement).

Peter Sallis reprised his role as the voice of Wallace. The filmed inserts are mostly narrated by Ashley Jensen, with one in each episode presented in-vision by Jem Stansfield. John Sparkes also voices a portion in the unseen character of archivist Goronwy.

Focus on Gromit's concern that Wallace has become over-dependent on his inventions, which proves justified when Wallace invents a "smart gnome" that seems to develop a mind of its own.

在这部喜剧动画里由动物们来评论人们每天日常生活的方方面面。
剧中有许多搞笑场面:
一只阿米巴变形虫在做很有哲学性的讲座。
短鼻鳄鱼大力称赞自己住的地方有多好——住的是地下水道。
动物们都害怕自己应该属于的环境(海象鲨鱼怕水, 小鸟怕高等等) 。
还有滑稽的背景:
听到鼻涕虫学鸟唱歌以后，昆虫们都吓得涌进铺路的石砖缝隙里。
小鱼们一起一开一合眨眼睛。
一直实验室老鼠被采访，然后后面有一只长了人耳的老鼠走过。

导盲狗Pickles — 他很空虚，但叫起来声音却又高又尖
仓鼠Fluffy — 一只很居丧的仓鼠，看什么都很悲观，包括海滩，小丑等等
Trixie和Cuddlepuss上尉 — 一只沟跟一只猫，看着象一对夫妻，狗抱怨猫老是有口气，或是小声嘀咕约克郡犬擦口红很难看。
Gary和Nigel — 两只长在花园里的鼻涕虫，好象对园艺很有研究很专业，经常被瓢虫在头上踩过。Nigel的老婆体型挺大，不过老听她说是在减肥(或者在休息，准备继续减肥)。
Sid和Nancy 老在搭棚的老鼠 —看来是结婚了的两只老鼠。Sid想搭一个高点棚，让他可以看电视上的足球，但是Nancy看来他是想看A片而已。
Ted和Stan — 婴儿小鸟，很可能是兄弟。
