音乐剧《春之觉醒》根据Frank Wedekind在1891创作的同名戏剧改编，描写了一群19世纪德国的少男少女在青春期的迷茫和躁动，该剧由于涉及到自慰、堕胎、强暴、自杀等内容而备受争议，曾在英国被禁演长达80年。
2007年该剧被Steven Sater和Duncan Sheik以摇滚音乐剧的形式搬上了纽约百老汇的舞台，结果大获成功，在当年的戏剧托尼奖（Tony Awards）上一举夺得包括最佳音乐剧、最佳音乐剧剧本、最佳音乐、最佳音乐剧男配角等在内的8项大奖！
今夏华纳暑期档大片《终结者4》（Terminator Salvation）导演McG目前正在洽谈把百老汇获奖音乐剧《春之觉醒》（Spring Awakening）搬上大银幕，他本人将担任导演和制片人，原剧的编剧和词作者Steven Sater将继续担任编剧兼作词。
McG与音乐缘份不浅，最初他就是以音乐人的身份出道的，曾制作过Sugar Ray的首张专辑，并与之合写了第二张专辑里的歌曲。之后他又当了MV导演，再后来就成为电影导演。如今的他还同时负责监制《橘镇风云》（The O.C.）、《超市特工》（Chuck）、《舞台灯光》（Limelight）等多套剧集，堪称全面开花的多面手。

Fifteen years after the Tony-winning Broadway run of Spring Awakening, the original cast and creative team reunite for a spectacular, one night only concert.

Nick cannot stop obsessing over his ex-girlfriend, Tris, until Tris' friend Norah suddenly shows interest in him at a club. Thus begins an odd night filled with ups and downs as the two keep running into Tris and her new boyfriend while searching for Norah's drunken friend, Caroline, with help from Nick's band mates. As the night winds down, the two have to figure out what they want from each other.
