故事梗概：

格瑞斯是一名体态丰满行动迟缓但心地善良的姑娘，她每天的工作就是在殡仪馆为已经去世的人化妆，并在遗体告别仪式上弹奏风琴。常人无法接受的工作和肥胖的身体加上内心的自卑，使得格瑞斯身边很少有朋友陪伴，更不用说是男朋友了。

一次在溜冰场格瑞斯和同事凯瑞一起注意到了一个男人，他完美的滑冰技艺和英俊的面孔简直让格瑞斯无法呼吸。格瑞斯发现自己爱上了这个男人，并深信通过努力也可以赢得他的心。于是格瑞斯跟踪这个名叫罗伯特的男人，并得知他的工作是地铁司机，而且他还有一个非常漂亮的未婚妻。

格瑞斯毫不灰心，她主动与罗伯特相识，并把自己的地址留给了罗伯特，她相信他一定会应邀来家中共进晚餐。尽管罗伯特的未婚妻奥莉维亚回父母家过圣诞节，只剩下罗伯特一个人，但罗伯特对这个胖胖的女孩毫无兴趣，下班后他和同事一起去喝酒，深夜才跌跌撞撞地闯进了格瑞斯的家。伤心的格瑞斯早把一桌佳肴打翻在地，她以为罗伯特永远都不会来到自己家中。
