Stavros, having just finished his military service and fearing that he will lose his beloved Rita, decides to imitate the fortune teller in his neighborhood. He succeeds with great success, convincing even Rita's parents that the man they were matchmaking her with is not suitable for their daughter.

Set during the Greek civil war. A villager is forced to leave his house and property and go to Thessaloniki with his daughter and son. They find refuge in an old building with hundreds of other people. They live a miserable life as the daughter becomes a whore, and the son has to work.

A girl from the slums of Athens becomes a famous singer while falling in love with her songwriter.
