Sie nimmt harmlose Jobs an, bei denen sie sich um Tiere kümmert, bezieht eine betreute Sozialwohnung und trifft sich regelmäßig mit ihrem Bewährungshelfer. Bei ihrer Arbeit auf der Trabrennbahn, wo sie für die Pflege der Pferde zuständig ist, lernt sie die 16-jährige Emma kennen. Bald empfindet Wanja Zuneigung zu Emma, dieser aufgewühlten Jugendlichen, in der sie sich selbst wiedererkennt. Doch Emma nimmt harte Drogen, und die üben auf Wanja einen gefährlichen Reiz aus. Unausweichlich steuert Wanja auf den Absturz zu, den sie vermeiden wollte.
