other title: 一个无政府主义者的意外死亡 / Случайная смерть Анархиста director: Alan Horrox / Gavin Richards actor: Gavin Richards / Gamini Hatthotuwegama / Piyush Mishra / Rhys Ifans / Brian Stewart
The play is a farce based on events involving a real person, Giuseppe Pinelli, who fell - or was thrown - from the fourth floor window of a Milan police station in 1969. He was accused of bombing a bank (the Piazza Fontana bombing).
The events of the play itself, however, are fictional. The play opens with Inspector Bertozzo interrogating The Maniac, a histrionic character, on the first floor of the police station. The Maniac, however, constantly outsmarts the dim-witted Bertozzo and, when Bertozzo leaves the room, intercepts a phone call from Inspector Pissani. The phone call lets the Maniac know that a judge is due at the police station to investigate the interrogation and death of the anarchist. The Maniac decides to impersonate the judge, and successfully does so. He gets the police to re-enact the events, in the actual fourth floor room, and also involves a woman journalist who is trying to probe the events. The play ends with two alternative endings, one with Feletti (journalist) leaving the four policemen to be bombed and in the second, Feletti uncuffs the men who in turn handcuff her to the window frame leaving her to die. The Maniac then leaves the audience to decide what ending is best.

Tom Wilkinson and Rhys Ifans lead in this shattering meditation on human identity. The playwright Caryl Churchill adapts her original play, examining the issue of human cloning via a thought-provoking, surprising and haunting father-son drama.
Salter, a man in his early 60s, is confronted by his adult son, Bernard (aka 'B2') who has discovered that genetic replicas of himself exist. Salter initially blames the cloning on an unscrupulous hospital and assures 'B2' that he is the original of the clones. Later, another, angrier son, 'B1', shows up on 'Salter's' doorstep. 'B1' confronts 'Salter' and their interaction reveals that 'B1' is actually the original: as a young widower, Salter treated 'B1' poorly out of grief and decided to start over with a new version of his son.
As more of Salter's lies about his dark past are unveiled, the brothers' illusions are stripped away and they begin to question their individuality, culminating in a climax both shocking and tragic.
For a television adaptation, the performances of Wilkinson and Ifans are up there with the original stage production that I saw at the Royal Court Theatre where the two protagonists were played by Michael Gambon and Daniel Craig. However I was left disappointed with the final scene here which I feel has taken the easy option of applying the tricks of television rather than rely on careful staging and the quality of the script which is what I was used to, and what I was expecting. That said, that's just me, and don't let me put you off downloading what is at the end of the day I very good piece of drama. If the Beeb could pull this off on a regular basis, then we'd all be much happier in our lives.
The Restraint of Beasts (2007) [Movie] Douban
director: Pawel Pawlikowski actor: Rhys Ifans / Ben Whishaw
A man (which is also the narrator of the story) works for a Scottish company building fences. He's made foreman of a crew which consists of two sullen and lazy Scotsmen, Tam and Richie. The three of them are sent to England on a special job where they spend their days laying fence, often quite lackadaisically, and their nights drinking up all their wages in local pubs. They leave a trail of dissatisfied customers in their wake, but fortunately, a series of accidents contrives to also leave these customers quite dead, and buried, unceremoniously, beneath fence posts.
