At the end of the 22nd century Alisa Seleznyova, her father Professor Seleznyov and pilot Zeleny go on a space expedition to find rare animals for Moscow Zoo. The only clue is a talking bird Govorun that our heroes accidentally took possession of.

The movie is set in the 1930s in the Soviet Union at the construction site of the Magnitogorskiy metallurgical factory. The story is about one day in the process of building up the factory. A journalist arrives from Moscow to look for the hero for his reportage on the construction project.
