Like a lot of shock-horror movies of the time, it asks you to sit through scenes staged like a 70s variety show skit alongside scenes depicting fairly nasty (at least for the time) violence, gore, torture, and rape. Compared to something like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre just a few years later, this feels strangely glib in its treatment of violence.
