This CD is 20 tracks of typically beautiful music from the master of Japanese movie soundtracks. The movie itself tells the true story of Sakamoto Tetsumu, a boy, who at an early age went to Thailand to learn to be an elephant trainer. In the process he dies in Japan while trying to build an elephant park. That's it! The big promotion point here is that Shining Boy And Little Randy is the follow-up movie of Yagira Yuya, the kid who won best actor at the Cannes Film Festival last year for his performance in Kore-eda's Nobody Knows. 大島渚監督,デビッド・ボウイ,ビートたけし共演の『戦場のメリー・クリスマス』はカンヌ映画祭にも出品され惜しくもグランプリはのがしたものの大変な評判を呼んだ。殊にボウイと坂本龍一のラストのキス・シーンは話題になったものだ。一枚はオリジナル・サントラ,そしてもう一枚は全曲ピアノ・ヴァージョンとして新たに録音し新曲「JAPAN」「CODA」を追加収録。メイン・テーマ「メリー・クリスマス・ミスター・ローレンス」は日本の伝統音楽と東南アジアの民族音楽を融合した感がする。
