In the late 1990s, in a small town in the southwest, the Federation of Literary and Art Circles held a writers' pen meeting, and the participants were more than a dozen famous domestic writers. Father documents the tumultuous relationship between a widowed father, Ma Lisheng, and his school-age son, Ma Che. 作家方言（佟大为 饰）从警察口中得知儿时的伙伴高洋（果静林 饰）离开人世的消息，追忆起他和儿时一群伙伴的成长往事。思绪万千的方言，从追忆的海洋中回到了现实的彼岸。方言已经平静了许久的生活又被打破了。他决定带着种种疑问去寻访那些过去的伙伴们。他们都是50年代末出生在北京某军队大院里的孩子，共同经历了那个特殊年代。70年代中期，他们先后参军离开了北京。80年代，改革的春风从中国的南方沿海城市吹起，广州这个开放的前沿城市更是如火如荼地大兴改革之风。下海经商的浪潮，吸引着无数年轻人跃跃试试，大展宏图。当年的同伴们有的上了大学，有的到广州下海经商，几个一起长大的朋友有的失踪了，有的去世了，有的历尽商海艰险后毅然决然回到北京……
