安托万故事的终结篇。小男孩不但长大成人、经历过不同的感情和一段婚姻，还有了稳定的职业，并且从未放弃对爱的追求，亦开始直面自己的成长史。当通往过去的窗口一一被主人公自己打开，安托万的故事自然可以划上一个终点——接下来就是波澜不再那么起伏的人生了。我觉得这是特吕弗想表达的。
