@prometheanbound Although both Romanian and Hungarian (and English) use Latin alphabets, the alphabet themselves usually indicate only the sound, not the meaning ---- for example the letter "a" in the word "bag" means nothing, and shares no meaning with the letter "a" in the word "hat". However, every single Chinese characters indicates certain fixed meanings, for example, the character ”人“ means human. So while a Chinese person with no idea of the Japanese language can't pronounce it properly when she or he sees this character in a Japanese word ( for example, "人类学"(anthropology） or 人工（artificial）)，she or he could still have a sense what the character means... Actually, even whole sentenses could be understood in this way. For example, from the meaning of all characters in the sentense ”日本人は皆好い人です" （Japanese are all good people)，it's meaning could be directly understood by a Chinese. (The sentense could be written in Chinese as "日本人皆是好人"，you can see how similar they are)
