@Das_Gespenst I see. I know some Japanese words stem from Chinese words, but the Chinese language has change a lot since those words were borrowed, so it can be hard to realized the resemblance. At least for me. I suppose it's probably easier for people over there. For me English was easy because, when I was a kid, everything I liked was in English, so I naturally gravitated towards it. But then also it uses an alphabet that is easy to memorize if you already know Cyrillic. After all, most European and Middle-Eastern alphabets descend from Proto-Sinaitic, so they all look alike. I know a lot of Westerners struggle with Cyrillic, but I never understood that. Most of the letters are similar, they only need to learn a few more. But yes, for someone who grew up with Chinese, English is a completely alien language.
