@Das_Gespenst Many Americans seem obsessed with Japan. To me it almost feels like a cliche. It's easy to be a fan of a popular culture. I always gravitated more towards China. To anyone that knows history, it's obvious that China was the center of East Asian culture, and a lot of Japanese cultural traits come from China. For example, Zen (Chan) Buddhism is often strongly associated with Japan, but of course it originated in China throgh syncretism with Daoism. I think a lot of people overlook stuff like that and go for what has heavier presence in pop-culture. Now kpop made Korea very popular, and now we see Americans who are obsessed with Korea too 😂 It's all kind of orientalist and superficial to me.
