Overview
Desire for Data is a video created in 2014, reflecting on the trend of so-called rationalized data of algorithmic formulas appeared when people’s lives has shifted to digital world gradually under the influence of epidemics. The video shows a group of French young mathematicians predicting the love dynamics of a group of Canadian youth through algorithmic formulas. Algorithm is usually used to track consumer’s preferences and choices online and offline. When human communication and social habits also can be predicted through data and formulas, it might become a digital mirror that reflects society. This video is not shot to aim at the current epidemic, but it still inspires us when we watch it again six years later today. It’s surprised to find that the digital world is getting closer and closer to people’s daily lives in the past six years. The boundary line between virtualization and reality is getting vague. Should we trust data or intuition?
