曾经，小林三平（喜多村英梨 配音）和一位少女有着一个浪漫的约定，一晃眼十年过去，虽然两人此刻早已天各一方，但小林从未忘记过这段美好的回忆，并且时刻希望能够再度获得这位少女的音信。
某个平平无奇的早晨，当小林睁开眼睛时，却发现一个红衣绿发的机器人出现在自己的身边，机器人名叫可美克（斋藤千和 配音），它此番前来寻找小林，竟然是为了和他结婚。就这样，小林在莫名其妙之中开始了和可美克的同居生活，与此同时，陪伴在小林身边的还有他的青梅竹马牧原泉（高桥美佳子 配音）、电波少女早川美咲（钉宫理惠 配音）和搜查官黑崎凉子（白石凉子 配音）。

《小凉宫春日的忧郁》围绕着SOS团的日常展开，团长凉宫春日（平野绫 配音），以及团员阿虚（杉田智和 配音）、长门有希（茅原实里 配音）、实玖瑠（后藤邑子 配音）和古泉（小野大辅 配音）都基本保留了原有的个性，但同时又新增不少搞笑有趣的新设定，因此一经推出就大受欢迎。
