In August 1947, the British passed a bill regarding the partition of Bengal. Delving into the grim history of the Partition, Mukherjee's movie Rajkahini is woven around a border between the two nations that runs through a brothel housing 11 women.

Set against the backdrop of an unexpected wedding invitation, a chance reunion after two years of estrangement forces two women to confront their deeply entangled, hidden past. As their unresolved history resurfaces in the shadows of the Chatterjee household, an unsuspecting husband finds himself increasingly caught in a web of unspoken anxieties.
