倫敦這棟被戲稱為『 THE GHERKIN 黃瓜』的建築物，由知名的設計師 — 諾曼佛斯特 Norman Foster 事務所設計，使用了很多節能招數，並盡可能地利用自然條件採光和通風。大樓配備有由電腦控制的百葉窗﹔樓外安裝有天氣傳感系統，可以監測氣溫、風速和光照強度。在必要的時候，自動開啟窗戶，引入新鮮空氣。

諾曼佛斯特作品特色，以精確建築細部，與簡潔流暢的外露結構，奠定其高科技建築師的領導地位。近期作品積極回應環保與能源課題，逐漸融入「人本關懷」與「環境生態」的設計理念。這棟瑞士再保大樓建築，最後贏得了兩項殊榮：最佳英國建築獎以及歐盟區內最佳英國建築師設計獎。頒發獎項的機構是英國皇家建築師學會 (RIBA) ，這是九年以來評審人員首次意見完全一致，選出的最佳作品。

本週『觀點 360°』選播的紀錄片就是這棟建築物從無到有的建蓋過程。從2001年1月24日開始，倒數150週的建築工程。瑞士再保公司新樓施工主任--莎拉福克斯說：「有多少人能有機會建造一座可以改變倫敦天際線的建築物？可以永久傳世的建築精品？我打算把它打造成瑞士再保集團旗下最令人嘖嘖稱奇的一棟建築物，人生至此夫復何求？」也因為建築本身的綠色再生觀念，讓它從建蓋前的批評轉成現在是倫敦市的新地標。
