The extermination camp Treblinka was one of the six "death factories" created by the Nazi Germany in occupied Poland, during the Second World war. In a frenzy of mass murder lasting less than two years, at least 800 thousand men, women and children, mostly Jewish, including the inhabitants of the Warsaw ghetto, were murdered in this tiny camp hidden deep in the woods. No one liberated Treblinka - to be a survivor you had to fight your way out. In August 1943, the Jewish slave labourers escaped from Treblinka in a dramatic revolt. When this documentary was produced, only two witnesses were alive: Samuel Willenberg and Kalman Taigman. This BBC film, written by Adam Kemp, documents their amazing survivor stories and the tragic fate of their families, and offers new insights into a forgotten death camp.
