Originally released in 1969, this is Gilberto Gil's second self-titled album in as many years. Perhaps not as consistent as the previous year's effort this is still a massive slab of Tropicalia, and one of the most forward-thinking pop albums to ever come out of Brazil. Featuring his first major hit Aquele Abraço and other classics like Volks Volkswagen Blue and Cérebro Eletrónico, Gilberto Gil manages to incorporate psychedelic experimentation, blues, rock, samba and post bossa nova into a whole much greater than the sum of its parts. A Tropicalia classic in print domestically for the first time ever.

Gilberto Gil (also commonly referred to as Gilberto Gil (Frevo Rasgado) to differentiate it from Gil's other self-titled releases) is the second album by Gilberto Gil, originally released in early 1968. The album features a blending of traditional Brazilian styles such as samba and bossa nova with American rock and roll. It also mixes Rogério Duprat's orchestral arrangements with the electric guitars of Brazilian rock group Os Mutantes.

The album is number 78 on Rolling Stone's list of 100 greatest Brazilian albums of all time.
Gilberto Gil's second album is packed with some of the best songs of his career -- jubilant pop extravaganzas like "Domingo No Parque," "Pega a Voga, Cabeludo," and "Frevo Rasgado" that were equally inspired by the irresistible, brassy bombast of Carnaval and intelligent rock & roll from America and Britain. Even more than the other tropicalistas, though, Gil blends his rock and native influences seamlessly, resulting in songs like "Êle Falava Nisso Todo Dia" that chart an intriguing fusion of Brazilian and British Invasion (before he breaks into Portuguese for the first verse, the intro sounds exactly like a few early Rolling Stones productions). Gil's occasional backing band, the teenage tropicalia breakouts known as Os Mutantes, join in on the feel-good Brazilian pop anthem "Domingou." Enjoyable and never as experimental as his work would soon become, Gilberto Gil is one of the best tropicalia albums ever released.

发布日期 2005年1月1日 出版发行: Wea International
Compilation CD by one of Brazil's most beloved artists. 19 tracks including 'Patuscada De Gandhi', 'Flora', 'Toda Menina Baiana' and more. Gilberto Gil, along with Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethania, and Gal Costa, was one of the founding members of the revolutionary late-60's Tropicalia movement, which deliberately challenged the conventions of Brazilian popular culture. Gil had an early burst of pop fame, and rapidly made his way into that musical state of grace where everything he did seemed to shimmer magically. Warner.
