Nachdem der Maskenbildner für Spezialeffekte Martin Blaine (Matt O'Neill) seinem Regisseur gegenüber handgreiflich geworden ist, muss er an einer Anti-Aggressions-Therapie teilnehmen. Ein Besuch bei einem Hypnotiseur scheint zu helfen, doch schon bald nach seiner Sitzung erhält Martin beunruhigende Nachrichten. Seine entfremdete Mutter ist unter mysteriösen Umständen ums Leben gekommen. Zusammen mit seiner Freundin Nicole (Kristin Lorenz) kehrt er nach Baronville mit seinen 3800 Einwohnen zurück und es dauert nicht lang bis immer mehr Menschen in seiner Umgebung tot aufgefunden werden - brutal zugerichtet, so als wäre ein Monster über sie hergefallen. Deadly spiders are accidentally unleashed from a top-secret military installation. Army specialists and Tanks are called in to exterminate the deadly predators, but the outbreak is worse than expected. Weapons of mass destruction have little or no effect on the venomous spiders. Civilians are strangled with spider webs and eaten alive. The Military in a desperate effort to eradicate the killer spiders, decide to demolish the entire city.

A group of college students decide to party at the abandoned chemical factory on the outskirts of town, unknowing that one of the former factory workers is still lurking about.
