Scotland Yard-Inspektor Mitchel findet eine heiße Spur, kann den nächsten Mord aber dennoch nicht verhindern...

Karin Dor ("The Green Archer") and Siegfried Lowitz ("Der Frosch mit der Maske") return for the 7th entry of the Edgar Wallace series, while Hellmut Lange stars for the first time as Peter Clifton who marries the beautiful Jane (Karin Dor). Jane discovers a printing machine for banknotes in her new home. Has she just married "The Forger of London", or who else could be responsible for the counterfeits? Funny enough, Peter doesn't know that himself because he seems to be a victim of schizophrenia... which Jane once dryly describes to him thus: "Can you imagine how interesting it is to have a husband who never knows where he wakes up?" Typical music by Martin Böttcher, unusual story, powerfully directed by Harald Reinl - a good movie, even if none of the most popular in the series. Apparently the producers tried to break fresh ground here instead of repeating a formula, and this courage is one reason why the Edgar Wallace series lasted so long.

A sleazy airline owner forces boozy former pilot Butch Donovan to climb into the cockpit by threatening to harm his son in this outlandish German comedy. Unbeknownst to Butch, the plane has been rigged to crash as part of an insurance scam. After miraculously surviving a harrowing landing on a remote jungle island, Butch and the other passengers find a whole new set of dangers awaits, including wild beasties and hired hit men.

She now accepts to become the wife of Etzel, king of the truly barbaric Hun nomads and invites the Burgund court nomenclature at their Danube court for their heir's baptism a few years later, but prepared a bloody conspiracy with her xenophobic brother-in-law behind her surprisingly chivalric husband's back, while Gunther accepts, hoping to avoid a far bloodier war, despite the danger for his party of knights, which materializes...

1958 film by Harald Reinl

The film was one of a series that attempted for the first time to capture the unique and high romantic Western novels of Germany's greatest adventure writer Karl May. Now, more than 30 years later, and with a video copy of the film in my library to look at when in the mood, I find this version of Karl May's novel rather quaint and clumsy in terms of script/screenplay and certainly out of step with the more popularised versions of the Wild West. However, May's portrayal of late 19th century America was always a mixture of well researched facts mingled with high romantic fantasy adventure in the "Knights of the Round Table" or "Star Wars" vein. In this regard, the film does capture the spirit of Karl May's novels pretty well, if rather geared towards an assumed prior knowledge by the audience of the characters and of May's novels. From today's sophisticated movie audience's perspective this film version of "Winnetou I" is still noteworthy for its magnificent soundtrack rivaling any John Williams score, and for the noble portrayal of the hero by French actor Pierre Brice, who made this role his own in numerous sequels and stage shows.
