如今，迪士尼的这个项目已经暂时搁置，反倒是索尼哥伦比亚公司捷足先登。
“尼摩船长”是凡尔纳笔下的一个独特的人物，他出现在《海底两万里》、《神秘岛》等凡尔纳的小说中。根据作者的描述，尼摩船长本是印度的达卡王子，因为自己的祖国沦为殖民地而建造了潜艇“鹦鹉螺号”（Nautilus），从此在海下自由漫游，再也不愿返回陆地。
