1995 short film

The Mother is one of Monteiro’s first essays on the universe of Portuguese oral culture, folktales and obscure colloquialisms. The plot revolves around a traditional tale about theft, greed, an ubiquitous mother, and the links between the worlds of the living and the dead.

One of the adventures of João de Deus.

1981 film by João César Monteiro

根据罗伯特·沃尔瑟的剧本，布兰卡·德内夫是一个黑屏上的白雪公主的独奏曲，里面有云彩的自然闪烁图像和一些难以理解的对话。

For his feature debut Monteiro creatively borrowed from traditional Portuguese legends to craft a series of echoing, parallel tales of young couples desperately escaping cruel false fathers, each couple on the run across different regions of the country and during increasingly contemporary time periods. A lyrical and profoundly cinematographic allegory with a glistening sharp political edge, Paths traces a pattern of repressive authority across Portuguese history while also pointing, with cautious optimism, towards the steady presence of youthful resistance. With its stunning choreography of landscape and use of a poetic, associative structure to evoke the longue durée of mythical time, Paths anticipates Monteiro's mid-career masterpiece Silvestre.

Two actors performing in Strindberg's "Inferno" as God and Lucifer, find themselves competing in real life as well. One of them, Henrique, has spiritual obsession with John Wayne and his way of walking. He and de Dieu, his fellow actor who plays Lucifer and also directs the Strindberg play, engage in a philosophical and spiritual tug-of-war, especially when they meet an author named God, who has plans for another drama to feature both actors. One of the 3 short films from the dvd "Veredas". It's a serie of traditional tales from Portugal. “ Une déambulation à travers des contes populaires portugais, autant redevables aux mythes primordiaux qu’aux grandes passions cinéphiles de César Monteiro. Leur “ logique ” est la logique des miracles. […] Ce sont des films sacrés , des films de mystère et de surnaturel. ”

Two young friends, pressed for money, are forced to beg. One day they come across a packet containing some clothes. Tired of walking around the city, they sit down on a park bench and start chatting.

In this highly theatrical TV production, Monteiro again draws on the world of folklore – and, more precisely, on the widespread sexual connotation of the pomegranate – to tell a tale of love, envy, treason and mistaken/double identities.

The Carnation Revolution is threatened by the interference of certain foreign powers that it sees a danger. In the river Tagus ‘hover’ the Allied ships NATO , among which stands out the aircraft carrier U.S.
