Local Sensations (2026)

Local Sensations takes a step “back” to reexamine the making of things, meanings, and their relationships to the world. I’ve been compelled to start from the most immediate and “local” territories—my thoughts, my being, other beings and non-beings, and the environment I inhabit. With the mutated onion-like editing structure of the film, I intend to layer existing elements—both contemporary and historical—with speculative ones. In this experimental documentary essay, I focus on the intersubjective conversations between myself as a filmmaker and those who appear in the film—interweaving control with contingency. I consciously and subjectively interpret others’ practices—glassblowing, improvising music, writing critical texts—as ways of expressing and responding to the world.

People on Sunday (2020)
People on Sunday Douban
Tulapop Saenjaroen actor: Narongphat Bowaonsittipan / Alisa Chunchue …
other title: 星期天的人们
In “People on Sunday”, Saenjaroen wishes to honor, through reinterpretation, MENSCHEN AM SONNTAG (1930), a homonymous German film directed by Robert Siodmak and Edgar G. Ulmer back in the days of silent film, known for being one of the first movies in cinema history to use non-actors. Set in a quite distinct geography and ideological context, Saenjaroen’s film is interested in episodic stories about idle workers during their downtime, being particularly fascinated with the paradox of non-professional actors effectively working to stage these non-work situations.
