Yes, we'll always have Paris and who better to capture all its moods than the inimitable Elliott Erwitt? With a keen eye for the real city, Erwitt sees beyond the tourist cliches. Whether the mightiest of monuments or the charm of la vie quotidienne this master photographer chronicles it all. Alternating intimate details with grand vistas, Erwitt captures the true flavor of la metropole. Born in Paris in 1928, Elliott Erwitt arrived in the U.S. in the late 1930s. Establishing himself in the '40s and '50s as a leading magazine photographer, he joined the prestigious Magnum agency in 1953. In addition to his work in magazines, he achieved great success as an advertising photographer and filmmaker. He currently lives in New York City--but spends a great deal of time in Paris.

作者: Elliott Erwitt / none publishing house: Phaidon Press 2003
Elliott Erwitt Snaps is a comprehensive survey of Erwitt's work containing more than 500 pictures, many never published before. From famous images like Khrushchev and Nixon arguing in Moscow in 1959 and Marilyn Monroe with the cast of The Misfits, to more personal subjects, Erwitt's distinctively witty style captures the famous and the ordinary, the strange and the mundane over a period of more than half a century.
The book's nine chapters, entitled Look, Move, Play, Read, Rest, Touch, Tell, Point and Stand, act as a means of grouping and organizing - making broad connections while playing a game of pun and ambiguity in keeping with the visual games Erwitt plays with the camera.
'The hallmarks of an Erwitt classic: the ability to spot an absurd juxtaposition and to record it with childlike delight Ö This tome shows that he hasn't lost any of the visual wit that makes one relish his pictures, while, at the same time, recognizing the melancholy that infuses any realization of the arbitrariness of existence.' (Time Out)
'Rare among photographers, Erwitt can make you laugh out loud (just turn to pages 86-87), but his scope is Tolstoyan. This 550-page retrospective will absorb you for years.' (Independent)
'An essential career-spanning retrospective that reveals Erwitt's unassuming wit, brilliant framing and deep humanity.' (New York Post)

Elliott Erwitt's Handbook [图书] 豆瓣
作者: Elliott Erwitt publishing house: Quantuck Lane Press 2002
Hands are, with the possible exception of the eyes, the most expressive parts of our bodies, asking for more or less, telling us to come or to go, scolding, rewarding, searching and finding, and at their most intimate, loving and lustful. Hands reward us, calm us, feed us and scratch our backs. They intimidate, bless, encourage and stop us. They soothe, caress and sometimes go where they shouldn't. We may take hands for granted, but Elliott Erwitt does not as he demonstrates in this collection of photographs.

Going beyond what is simply picturesque, this magnificent collection of photographs candidly reveals both the sum and its parts of the varied landscapes, the characters--and of course, the dogs!--that are unique to Scotland.

DogDogs [图书] 豆瓣
作者: Elliott Erwitt publishing house: Phaidon Inc Ltd 1998 - 10
Magnum photographer Elliott Erwitt, claims that he did not consciously set out to photograph dogs. According to him, it just happened that way: one day, when he was looking through his boxes of photographs, he realized that somehow or other a fair proportion of them contained dogs and their owners. Images of dogs at shows, dogs in crowds larking around together, dogs jumping in the air for joy, dogs sitting on hearthrugs, beaches, sofas, park benches. And these were all sorts of dogs - from Airedales to Highland terriers and from poodles to dachshunds. This book presents 500 of Elliott Erwitt's dog photographs, divided into horizontal and vertical shots with short captions detailing the place and year. As P.G. Wodehouse, who was a great admirer of Elliott Erwitt's, says in his short introductory text, "What superb photographs these are. It does one good to look at them. There is not one sitter in his gallery who does not melt the heart."
