Jacques Villeret occupe une place à part : il n’est pas une "icône", et pourtant, il brille aussi fort que les plus grand.e.s, d’une lumière particulière, celle qui déclenche aussi imparablement le rire que les larmes, celle qui nous interroge sur le mystère des émotions. En découvrant son histoire méconnue, pleine de rebondissements et d’événements parfois dramatiques, on comprend comment cet homme qui nous touche en plein cœur a pu s'installer aussi haut tout en restant "des nôtres", sans jamais se défaire de sa fragilité. Jean-Marie Poiré tourne « Le père Noël est une ordure » au printemps 1982. Le film est tiré d'une pièce du café-théâtre « Le Splendid », dont la troupe s'est imposée au cinéma en 1978 dans « Les Bronzés ». Rapidement, « Le père Noël est une ordure » devient un classique, notamment grâce à ses dialogues et répliques. Très politiquement incorrect, le film parle sans tabou de la misère et de l'exclusion, des associations caritatives et de l'hypocrisie sociale. C'est alors l'âge d'or du café-théâtre, des petites troupes indépendantes qui manient sans réserve l'humour et la critique sociale.
