《美女与野兽》是一个创作于18世纪的古老法国童话，原作者是Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve。故事讲述了一个被施了咒语的王子变成了一个面目可怕的野兽，后来有一个美丽的女孩爱上了野兽，从而解除了魔法。这个故事早在1946年就曾被法 国导演拍成过电影，1991年的迪士尼动画版本则更让它更加家喻户晓。
据悉，比尔·康顿（Bill Condon）为迪士尼导演的这部《美女与野兽》还将从1994首演的迪士尼同名百老汇音乐剧中取材。后者根据动画片改编，剧中由艾伦·曼肯（Alan Menken）和蒂姆·赖斯（Tim Rice）创作的多首歌曲，都是动画片里所没有的。
现已确定两位男主角，大表哥Dan Stevens扮演野兽，而“巴德将军”Luke Evans扮演大反派Gaston加斯顿，此前艾玛·沃特森已经确认扮演美女贝尔公主。
