《星期天与乔治同游公园》是音乐剧大师斯蒂芬·桑德海姆（Stephen Sondheim)的代表作之一，由其老搭档詹姆斯·拉潘（James Lapine）编剧，桑德海姆包揽词曲。该剧的故事灵感来源于法国点画派大师乔治·修拉（Georges Seurat)的名作《大碗岛上的星期天下午》。关于乔治·修拉生平的记载颇少，故事主要是虚构的。1983年七月该剧第一幕（未定稿）在外百老汇的Playwrights Horizons)试验，由著名的Mandy Patinkin及Bernadette Peters主演，后桑德海姆扩充完成全剧，于1984年5月2日在百老汇的Booth Theatre首演，主角仍是Mandy和Bernadette。百老汇首演的评价褒贬不一，但是次年该剧即获得普利策最佳戏剧奖（历史上只有七个音乐剧获得过次奖），以及托尼奖两项舞台设计类奖项（该剧的舞台光学运用具有突破意义），也获得了最佳音乐剧提名，但惜败于La Cage aux Folles。
本篇是该剧的舞台录像，为原剧组人员演出，于1985年10月21日-25日在Booth Theatre摄制。1986年2月18日在Showtime频道首播。第一幕讲述乔治·修拉为完成《大碗岛上的星期天下午》而执着艺术，最后恋人点点（Dot）离他而去的故事。第二幕讲述一百年后（1984)乔治的曾孙乔治妥协于大众观点而失去艺术灵感，来到大碗岛上参加一个官方活动，结果在其曾祖母点点的点拨下恍然大悟的故事。
该剧是桑德海姆在Merrily We Roll Along失败后的回归之作，故事中的主题依旧沉重严肃，但其台词中的幽默仍然难以掩饰，让人时常在忍俊不禁，却有感动异常。音乐上桑德海姆突出使用了主导动机手法，在和声运用上也有重大创新，其通过节奏模拟点画技巧的尝试无疑是异常成功的。第二幕剧情生硬是该剧的一大缺憾。总体而言，随着时间流逝，该剧的艺术价值愈发彰显，05年有过重要的伦敦复排版，08年有百老汇复排版。

Based around the stand-up routines of comedienne Margaret Cho, this series looked at the culture clashes that occured between a traditional Korean mother and her fully Americanized daughter. Mom just wants Margaret to marry 'respectable' men: doctors, lawyers, scientists (and always Korean), while her daughter is more interested in Caucasian bikers, musicians, and any other type that her mother is bound to hate.
