Hokkaido, 1991, a series of murders take place and dragons suddenly begin appearing in the skies. On planet Amoi, a great society has developed, creating a computerized city called Tanagura, ruled by a supercomputer, Jupiter. Blondies keep young boys as "pets" for a few years to perform sexual actions for the Blondie's voyeurism entertainment. Blondies aren't supposed to keep pets for long or interact sexually with pets, but one blondie named Iason Mink has kept a pet named Riki for years and is rumored to sleep with him. Iason refuses to let go of Riki, even with Jupiter's disapproval. Paranoia Agent is a Japanese anime television series created by director Satoshi Kon and produced by Madhouse about a social phenomenon in Musashino, Tokyo caused by a juvenile serial assailant named Lil' Slugger (the English equivalent to Shōnen Bat, which translates to "Bat Boy"). The plot relays between a large cast of people affected in some way by the phenomenon; usually Lil' Slugger's victims or the detectives assigned to apprehend him. As each character becomes the focus of the story, details are revealed about their secret lives and the truth about Lil' Slugger.

Higurashi Outbreak is set in the same Hinamizawa village of the previous stories. The village has been completely sealed off due to a mysterious virus in 1983, and Keiichi Maebara and Rena Ryūgū deal with the outbreak. But this time, they don't know if its Oyashiro-sama's curse or a conspiracy. It is also shown that Rika might be infected by the virus. Not much is known about the story yet, but in an interview the makers of the OVA revealed that the ending will differ from the original story.
