Elyot and Amanda, having been divorced for 5 years, now find themselves sharing an adjoining suite at a hotel in Deauville, each on honeymoon with their new spouses (Elyot's young and kittenish wife Sybil, Amanda's husband Victor). The chance reunion re-ignites their passion, upon realising that they still love one another, and both regret having divorced, Elyot and Amanda flee to her Paris flat, where the initial bliss is replaced by the inevitable squabbles and violent rows that had lead to the divorce in the first place. It is a love and hate cycle that repeats itself, and a trap Elyot and Amanda cannot get out of - they cannot live without one another, nor can they live together as they are. The arguments escalate into physical abuse, and at the height of which, Victor and Sybil arrive at the flat. The jilted spouses display their reasonable understandings towards Elyot and Amanda, and a decision is reached that they be given a year in which to consider and confirm their wishes to be together, thence divorces will be granted. Each defending their respective spouses, Victor and Sybil start to quarrel. It is becoming clear to Amanda and Elyot that the two are just suited to each other as they are themselves. So the ex-husband and wife decide to forgive one another and tiptoe out of view, leaving Victor and Sybil to their now out-of-hand and soon-to-be violent fights.

A star-studded BBC film of Oscar Wilde’s glittering and controversial career before his trial for homosexual crimes and tragic fall from grace. Highlights from Oscar’s brilliant comedies such as The Importance of Being Earnest and stories such as The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Canterville Ghost are adapted and performed by a cast including Freddie Fox, Claire Skinner, Anna Chancellor and James Fleet. Wilde enthusiasts and experts, including Stephen Fry, Wilde’s grandson Merlin Holland and his latest biographers, provide revelatory accounts of how his own life informed his work. His Irish roots, his early career, his marriage and the importance of women as well as men in his life all combine in a complex and compelling characterisation and celebration that adds flesh to the bones of a man who is too often caricatured.

Andrea De Ritter, founder of an organization that supports gifted children, is murdered after making a presentation to Zoe Suskin, only fifteen but an Oxford student. That night Andrea had resisted the advances of young student Elmo Woodeson as well as sending a copy of the autobiography of former spy mistress Dame Grace Orde to Zoe's publisher father Leon. She had added inside the book "Who Killed Mary? See Chapter 8." Both Leon and Elmo are killed shortly after and Zoe's tutor Donald Voss is poisoned though not fatally. Suskin had punched Liam Cullen, Andrea's lover, wrongly believing he was having an affair with his wife Judith following a text message to her and indeed sexual affairs, with Andrea at their hub, would seem to motivate the killings.

"BBC Three comedy series, set in Edinburgh, about two young teenagers who are having a baby together"

Testament of Youth is a powerful story of love, war and remembrance, based on the First World War memoir by Vera Brittain, which has become the classic testimony of that war from a woman’s point of view. A searing journey from youthful hopes and dreams to the edge of despair and back again, it’s a film about young love, the futility of war and how to make sense of the darkest times.

Jane Austen remains one of the greatest writers of all time. Almost two hundred years after her death, her novels such as “Pride and Prejudice” and “Mansfield Park” continue to entrance generations of readers the world over. This film shatters any assumption that Austen herself lived the elegant Regency life of her financially comfortable heroines who ultimately find their true love. Instead it reveals the real Jane Austen as part of strata of Regency society much crueller in its treatment of women and harsher in its economic realities than her novels and their current television adaptations convey. And it discovers a woman more tragic in her own personal love life who does not enjoy the “happy ending” that she bestows upon her own female characters. Through readings and dramatic reconstructions, The Real Jane Austen pieces together the reality of Austen’s existence her modest upbringing in Hampshire as one of seven children of a clergyman; her disappointment in love; and the family’s poverty following the death of her father. Through her writing Jane found financial independence without having to marry. Tragically only four years later in July 1817 while writing “Persuasion” Jane Austen died. Filmed in locations associated with Austen including Jane’s birth place of Steventon and her later home in Chawton, and illustrated with extracts from film and television adaptations of Austen’s work, The Real Austen paints a vivid portrait of one of the greatest talents in English literature.
