The story of fifteen-year-old shepherd Gu Xiao, who ran away from his landlord to the mountains. There he met scouts from the People's Liberation Army and helped them find the right path. The shepherd then took part in an important combat operation. For his courage and resourcefulness, Gu Xiao was enlisted into the ranks of the soldiers at the request of the company.

In the center of the story is the story of a young girl from the Dai nation, who, despite gossip and accusations of witchcraft, becomes a successful doctor and finds happiness in her personal life.

梁璎（黄音 饰）、黄柳花（汪漪 饰）和袁璞君（二林 饰）一起离开潮汕高级商船技术学校到上海实习，一行人前往黄浦江边去看轮船，哪知道遇到了有人落水。虽然梁璎自己也不会游泳，但她还是义无反顾的跳进了江水里救人，所幸得到了“人民91号”船的水手长马骏（中叔皇 饰）的出手相救，梁璎和落水的人才捡回了性命。
马骏强烈谴责梁璎不顾后果下水救人的行为，这让梁璎感到非常的委屈。然而，让她没有想到的是，自己所实习的船只，就是人民91号，在船上，她和马骏再度相逢了。赵船长（张翼 饰）对女孩学习开船存在着偏见，因此总是安排梁璎等人去干一些无关紧要的活计，这让梁璎感到十分不满。
