因为拍摄于1914年，本片今天看来稚气十足，不过一只叫Gertie的雌性恐龙按字幕所示（在相关工作人员的提点下）做出一个个动作，期间她乐意有时不乐意有时。但影片当年曾让美 国观众大为吃惊，其时动画仍是新事物，真人与动画相结合的构想亦是超前。论说动画片的先驱，该片导演Winsor McCay当之无愧是其中之一。

Adapted from Winsor McCay's films and comics of the period, this film follows the established theme: the "Rarebit Fiend" gorges himself on rarebit and thus suffers spectacular hallucinatory dreams.

本片是世界上最早的彩色动画。有时长2分多、10分多两个版本。后一版本在前一的基础上，加入winsor Mccay团队创作正片的过程。

Like all of Winsor McKay's cartoons, this little mosquito fable uses his incredible artistic talent to its fullest and contains a surprising amount of wit for such a simple, short subject. Like his newspaper cartoons, McKay's animated films are distinctive in their art and humor, but the animated films are especially interesting because they lie at the very root of cartoons. Gags that are still being used today appear in this little gem. The collected works that contains Mosquito provides an amazing insight into a brand new art form that had unbounded possibilities in the early 1900s, possibilities that arguably are still unfolding today

As the Colonel is getting ready to go to sleep, his wife reproaches him for having eaten rarebit, which always gives him strange dreams. Sure enough, the Colonel soon has a dream, in which his wife takes in an odd stray animal. In his dream, the new pet has an insatiable appetite - but what really causes trouble is that every time it eats something, it immediately gets larger.

Storyline
After eating a cheesecake given him by a kind-hearted lady, a hobo goes to sleep and has a bizarre dream in which insects are putting on a vaudeville show for him, with a grasshopper juggling an ant, a dancing daddy long-legs, etc.

Gertie the dinosaur has been brought into the modern world. Continually perplexed by her new surroundings, she begins to explore the new sights. But when she sleeps, she dreams of the way it used to be, in the days when the world was full of dinosaurs like herself.

A female centaur (a creature half-human and half-horse) enters a clearing in the woods, and picks some flowers. She is soon met by a male centaur, and the two then romance each other. They then seek parental consent for their union.
