Lucius Glantz, a veteran hotel manager in Vienna, fights to save his beloved establishment from a scheming realtor's plan to demolish it, leading to a clash of wills that even affects the hotel's renowned soufflé recipe.

Vienna, 2019 – the end of an era. The smoking ban in public places means that a part of Kaffeehaus culture has disappeared. Of all moments, this is the one that Angeliki chooses to buy an apartment with help from her interior designer, Carmen. Angeliki seems to have something against all of them: either the parquet floors creak, the tiles are the wrong colour or she is bothered by the proximity to a restaurant. How will she ever find a new home in this environment? Carmen feels like she is talking to a brick wall. Moreover, she simply cannot understand why Angeliki is refusing to part with her money. Journeying from Vienna to Andalusia, via salt flats overcast by mysterious shadows, Gastón Solnicki’s fifth feature film is a brilliant lesson in generosity. A classic comedy dominated by women which brings together actors and non-actors in a lively, fragmented story. Narrated by Mexican writer Mario Bellatin and filmed by Rui Poças, this is a subtle and witty homage to the Austrian capital that discovers bygone splendour in ordinary things.

The beguiling third feature from Argentine writer-director Gastón Solnicki (Papirosen) takes inspiration from Béla Bartók’s opera Bluebeard’s Castle for this charming tale about several young women attempting to make their way into adulthood.

A man wanders the streets of Vienna, guided by the memory of a friend who has recently passed away. The vestiges of a once sumptuous empire become the setting for a cinematic elegy and a dark celebration of life. “Introduzione all’oscuro” by Argentinian author and director Gastón Solnicki is a cinematic tribute to Viennale director Hans Hurch, who died in 2017, and his place of work, Vienna.

Masterfully edited from nearly 200 hours of footage, PAPIROSEN represents a decade of filmmaking, and four generations of Argentine director Gastón Solnicki's family history, culled from 8mm home videos, a VHS bar mitzvah, and original observational material. His father, Victor, emerges as the lead figure, but Solnicki highlights the entire clan. Beginning with the birth of his nephew, Mateo, and punctuated throughout by interviews with his grandmother, Pola, a Holocaust survivor, the film's scope is simultaneously epic and intimate. PAPIROSEN is a meditation on family, history, the importance of storytelling, and the power of cinema itself.
